Caring for your newborn’s oral health starts long before their first tooth appears. Good habits from the very beginning lay the foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles.
Even before teeth emerge, gently wiping your baby’s gums with a clean, damp cloth after feedings helps remove bacteria and prevent buildup. Once the first tooth appears—usually around six months—switch to a soft infant toothbrush and a tiny smear of fluoride toothpaste.
Avoid putting your baby to bed with a bottle of milk or juice, as prolonged exposure to sugars can lead to early tooth decay, known as “baby bottle tooth decay.” Instead, offer water or clean their gums before sleep.
Regular dental check-ups should begin by their first birthday to ensure their oral development is on track. Starting early with gentle cleaning, healthy feeding habits, and routine check-ups will set your child up for a bright, healthy smile in the future.
Your baby’s smile is precious—nurture it with care from day one!
